The Sleeping Goddess

This voluptuous goddess comes from the ancient civilization of  Malta, which some believe goes back to over 10,000 BC. Her strongest feature is her voluminous hips and thighs, which speak of abundance, gestation, birth. In addition she is sleeping. Putting the two aspects together, it appears that she is a goddess of dream-healing, which was practiced in many early civilization through dream temples.. At ancient Pergamon (Greek city in modern Turkey) there is a dream temple complete with a dream room, where supplicants spent the night with dream priests. Then they “birthed” down a long corridor  lined with portals from which priests sent messages or healing scents to the dreamer. When the dreamer exited from the tunnel, he was “re-born.”

Have you had healing dreams? I would love to hear about them.

The Great Creatix

This goddess is entirely made of eggs, revealing that the ancient ones saw the Divine Feminine as the Great Creative Force in the Universe- the source of life, of abundance, of creation. For many people today, the modern idea of God is a masculine being, who can be a loving one, but can also be angry and punishing. However, the original concept of God has been Feminine from the time of the hunter-gatherers.

What changed? What caused such a dramatic split?  Can you guess? In my estimation, it was a cataclysmic event, or several of them. But that will wait for a future posting!

The Aecheulean Goddess

This is the very oldest goddess found so far. She is from the west Bank from 200,00- 800,000 BC! Wow! Imagine!  The Creatrix has been with us forever!
She has a vagina, breasts, and arms. And most interestingly, her head resembles a penis. Which brings to mind, that ancient cultures don’t exhibit the polarity of sexes that distinguishes ours, but  instead they exhibit a melding of male and female as one whole!  Whole and wholesome!

wow! who knew?

What feelings does our little goddess bring up for you? let me know.

The Great Creator Mother Goddess

Venus of Willendorf from 40,000Bc in Germany is the image of the Great Creator Mother Goddess. But she is not the image of a real woman, she represents and Idea our ancestors expressed about the Creative Force of the Universe. And that force is the Divine Feminine.

Full, round, egg-shaped with a pregnant belly, ripe breasts, full thighs she is the essence of abundance, creativity, and nurture. Small hands and no feet indicate that doing and moving are not her focus. Nor is she a portrait, for there is no face. And that is the key to understanding this mysterious creation. Her head is a bee hive, sacred symbol of the Goddesss; for the bee hive represents  community , with all members working together to raise and nurture the young for the prosperity of the tribe. And let’s not forget that the community creates the greatest sweetness- honey!

There is one more feature to consider- her stunning ochre color. But I leave that to you to interpret. For this may be her most important aspect; the one that makes the Goddess so very powerful! What do you think it might represent?

Please let me know what you think!

Goddess Toys

These delightful little goddesses are actually children’s  toys from Catal Huyuk in Southern Turkey, the earliest known human settlement from 8,000 BC.

Imagine being a child and playing with these smooth shapely stone figures! How good they would feel in your hand and how powerful! You might immediately feel a magical connection to the feminine creative force that grows flowers and seeds and gives birth to animals and humans.

Toys are a window to the psyche and values of any group of humans. What mindset do these toys create for you?

Now imagine holding a Barbie doll, and what does that doll tell us about ourselves? Does she empower us women, or diminish us? (Don’t let the Superwoman logo fool you.)

Let me know. I would love to hear from you.

Four Little Goddesses

Many hundreds of little goddess figures have been found in Europe, the Middle East, and northern Africa.  Fitting  in the palm of your hand they were a talisman for the woman who seeks help from the Goddess in conceiving or giving birth. Many goddess figures show evidence of having been ritually buried. These four goddesses were created by hunter-gatherers.

For our ancestor, the Goddess was the embodiment of the life force  that they witnessed in the world around them; the force that animates the universe; that causes an egg to quicken and grow, the flower to open and create seeds,  the force that makes women and animals give birth to a new life.  It is the Goddess turns the great cycle of life, death, and rebirth.

Can you imagine holding one of these goddesses in the palm of your hand? How would it feel? Would you ask her to help you with a challenge you face?

Sometimes I think that maybe as children we play with dolls as reconnecting to a memory of a time when the woman was an embodiment of that force of life and love that animates the world

Sacred earth newsletter - December

On this the shortest day of this year, it feels to me like we have reached the bottom of the endless well of suffering and violence .  I hope I am right on this. The tectonic plates seem to be groaning, shifting; moving, breaking up. Beams of light break through the cracks. It has been a very long journey.

It is time  to pull ourselves together;. The forces that pulled us apart have reached bottom. Now they begin to circle back inward. Rejoice!

A child is born. This child. That child. Any child. They are all blessed. We are all blessed. We need to know it. We need to acknowledge it. Let Healing begin!

A word about the name change. My reason for choosing the name Lenape for my first newsletter was out of gratitude and respect for the healers and native people who came here before us  and loved this land at least as much as we do. However, some of us thought it might not be respectful to use the name witihout permission of those who bear it. So I concede, not wanting to step on any toes, and I find a name that seems to fit certainly as well, and perhaps even better.

A word about the dark   The  Winter darkness has been challenging for me. The days are so short, I scramble to fill the long night. In our fast paced life, I find it difficult to slow down and do little.

In the days before electricity we humans sat by candle light and told stories. We looked long at the stars in the night sky. We listened to the night. We dreamed. Imagined. Breathed. These are the days of fullness, gestation, possibility.

Soon enough the earth energies will be waking up again, and  so will ours. But for now soften into the  nurturing arms of the womb. A child is coming.

Festival of lights; since earliest times, this has been a time of lighting, of campfire, of storytelling, of community. The symbol for this coming together is the circle. The circle and its cynamic, the spiral, are the symbols to work from in this time of coming together. We as a civilization have been living under the weight of the pyramid, not the pyramid of Ancient Egypt, but the pyramid of the few at the top, and the rest of humanity at the bottom, supporting and feeding the “masters of the universe.” In your meditations and intentions, imagine softening the pyramid till it melts into a sphere; a giant teepee with a great warming fire at the center, and the tribes sitting round it , telling stories and roasting popcorn and marshmallows.

It is a powerful, transformative image, and our job is to bring positive energies into existence.

The next Shamanic circle will be on Sunday February 1 to celebrate Brigid’s Day; my favorite celtic Goddess. She is the bringer of earth Energies back to the land. She is feminine power- the power of life, of new beginnings, of growth and abundance. She is the goddess of the fire, the forge, and metallurgy. She is the goddess of poetry and story telling. She’s got it all!!!

Brigid

Children’s Shamanic circle forming;

In February I will be giving a monthly shamanic circle for children and their parents. at the Cooperage. If any of you would like to help out I would be very grateful for your help. Let your friends with children know and look for future notices.

May the blessings of the Darkness and the Light be yours.

Sacred earth newsletter - Fall 2016

SACRED EARTH NEWS FALL 2016, news from  the NE.Pa  shamanic group
Dear Ones,

As Lugh, Celtic sun god, traces a low arc across the sky, we are reminded to give gratitude for the great abundance of Mother Earth, to celebrate our riches, and to experience the joy that is available to us as inhabitants in the 3d dimension

After the hottest year ever, we must be thankful for shifting breezes, the golden light, and the mild temperatures. But may we not forget that this year has shown us forcefully that our planet is in great peril and that we must all be warrior fir Life on Earth.

We are all light workers, having chosen to be here at this critical time, to help rebirth a new Earth. As the old paradigm crumbles and rots, we have the prviledged opportunity to generate our own light into the dark old crevices of the dying patriarchy.

I urge you to bring your shamanic and spiritual practices into your every day lives.You don’t need to drum to be in touch with the ancestors or your helping spirits. they are all around you, all the time; be aware of them. they are supporting you, whispering in your ear. here are some suggestions for living your spiritual practice more fully;

WALK IN NATURE.  even if it’s in town,  Go to a tree of flower, or bug. Let your thoughts and concerns fall away as  you become present to Creation. Speak to the trees, the rocks, the water, the insects. Speak to them out loud. Sing to them.  they are aware of your presence and they radiate love back. Like a child, become a shining star . Your light will heal those around you, and travel far into the universe. Your light will create a new space for the new world we are weaving with our intentions and imaginations.

I often get my best insights on my walks with nature.

When you don’t know how to solve something, ASK FOR HELP. Ask for it out loud.  Call on specific helpers.; an angel,  a teacher, a guide. The more specific you are, the better the results. Your petition clears a space for an answer to come in. let go and step back,,,,
Help may come in unexpected ways and not on your schedule, but I have found this very helpful.

TRUST yourself and the goodness in yourself and the world. In your meditations, use your imagination to fill the space around you with ancestors, angels, minerals, plants, animals, teachers, gods and goddesses, whoever is important to you. They are your support team, and if you are open to their presence, you need never feel alone. They help you, communicate with you, guide and protect you. Children have no problem tuning in to “friends”.  Above all be grateful for every day and every blessing that is yours. That will create a loving perspective that will serve your intentions very well.

Blessings to all of you on your path of discovery and adventure. In Spirit,  Hana

Sacred earth newsletter - May

It feels so promising to have the warming rays of the sun returned and the brown earth exposed again. Can the power of Green be far behind? Life is good.

On the other hand, with the intense solar eruptions, solar eclipses, full moon, climate mayhem, and human chaos, I think it is safe to say that most of us are also feeling supremely challenged and perhaps a bit lost at this time. Not a week or a few days goes by and there is another shadow-self human mega-drama playing out before the whole world, wreaking havoc with our sense of ourselves as a species.  What other species behaves so badly?

We have lost our connectedness to ourselves, to mother earth, to the universe, to Spirit. We have set ourselves adrift in our own sense of  “specialness”.

This is the time for lightworkers to step forward and stand firm in our conviction that light and love are the essence of life itself, the force that drives everything. We must become the beacons of light. In the words we choose, what we say, how we think and behave first towards ourselves and then towards others, how we “be” in every moment  of life; these are powerful forces in shaping what manifests. It means telling yourself the naked truth, telling others that truth, and calling on others to do the same. Being real, who you truly are is the powerful transformer that inspires everyone you interact with and calls on the higher self to see what is truly important.

How do we anchor ourselves in our own truth?  How do we find the center of that gyroscope that weaves and spins, and always maintains its center?

I will share with you some of the daily practices that I find helpful.

ANCHORING OURSELVES FOR THE DAY

I begin the day by breathing my body. I invite the love of the universe, the ancestors, guides, fairies, angels, archangels, Teachers, and Spirit  to fill me with love and light. I imagine every cell in my body responding  with great joy, and that joy emanating light outward.

When I feel all lit up, I concentrate all this energy in my solar plexus, my sun; the me that radiates into the world. Who I am and what I am creating is lighting up the world and my world. In order to do this, you will find your spine straighten and you sit and stand taller , for there needs to be space for this sun  grow and to radiate. This is good for your internal organs, for you have made more room for them to do their jobs too. And your own sense of confidence and being is enhanced. Then you can come back to that image during the day to remind yourself who you are.

GREETING THE SUN

another practice that gives me great joy is to greet the sun as it breaks the horizon. At that time, I can look at the sun without its blinding me. I hold up my hands to receive its rays as well as my eyes. And I thank the sun for coming once again. I bless it and let it bless me. The sun sends us its love, light, and life force, and I send it back with gratitude. sometimes I sing.

I know I am in good company when I do this. Our dog Bruna often sits facing the sun in the morning before it appears. I have seen my horses all facing into the morning sun. Then I say young boy Buddhist monks singing to the rising sun in a video that I found so inspiring. In a Czech fairy tale my mother read me over and over again, the prince  needs to find a way to pluck three golden hairs. from Grandfather Sun in order to fulfill the challenges he is facing, so that he can become the king and marry the princess. Figuring that our takes a lot of help from the helping spirits.

Perfect  time to give thanks for all of our many blessings.  We have so very much to be thankful for.

Every day the news of human affairs offends our sense of who we are. The old paradigms are disintegrating, and the very worst aspects of the human soul are exposed. The trauma is endless, it seems.

A perfect opportunity for the Children of Love and Light to take heart, and to step into the chaos; to call on that sleepy warrior within us, the Passion of our souls, to awaken and fill the void. Flip the switch. become the beacon of light that calls on the best aspect of the human soul to manifest a new vision. Each one of us  has such an important part to play.

For this reason I am dedicating our Shamanic Circles for this year to clarifying a our vision for a New Earth . We began this journey with a powerful circle on Oct. 18 with five new members. Brenda channeled for us. We are keeping our discoveries in a notebook. I invite you all to join us in this important and exciting work.

Our greatest challenge is to fully become the change we want to see. What is within  manifests without.  to clear our bodies and chakras of debris, impacted energy, and unresolved issues.

 To help us in this process I am offering these services;

  • a FREE healing session if scheduled between now and February.
  • a class on Healing Old patterns That Don’t Work Any More. date to be announced.

THE POWER OF REIKI

I have been practicing reiki for a few years now. sometimes I see the effects clearly, and other times it’s not so obvious. Recently I had a vivid demonstration of its power.

I was in my bedroom upstairs when I heard the dull thud on the window that tells me a bird has flown into the window. I looks outside to see a small bird sitting still on the roof over our porch. he was sitting still, not moving. My heart sank, but I thought he is not knocked out. he will come to. I checked up on him a few minutes later. he had not moved. I kept checking every few minutes. no change. finally after about half an hour, I decided to send him Reiki. I put up my hands and felt the energy pulsing toward him. I kept repeating Arnica 1C ( this is a high potency of the homeopathic remedy for shock.)
after about 2 minutes of this, his head began to move slowly in both directions. In a flash he took off!!!

Wow!  That was satisfying! just goes to show that we have tools available right at hand!

Next Shamanic Circle; Sunday November  1-4

Watch out for ghost and goblins and curious cats and pumpkins!

Blessings,

Hana
