Remembering the Goddess
Her Epic Journey from Divinity Through Rejection to Unity as Revealed in Art
A slide talk and presentation
Available in four, two-hour sessions or as a one and half hour presentation.
Long ago the Divine Feminine was the organizing principle of human existence on Earth. God was a woman. She was the great archetype of Life-Giver, protector, nurturer, healer, priestess, Mistress of the Animals . Her portals were kindness, intuition, creativity, art, dance, poetry, ritual, joy, abundance, sanctity of life and life cycles. Humans were at peace with one another, with themselves, and with nature and the animals. They lived in the Garden of Eden.
This state is reflected in neo-lithic art; the breath-taking, sophisticated cave paintings, statuettes, artifacts, and archaeological evidence.
Then a series of catastrophes occurred that began a shift in human consciousness, from one of abundance and well-being to one of scarcity and fear. At around 3000 BC there began to appear images of violence, subjugation, and war. Now the Goddess shared the pantheon of many Gods and Goddesses, ever changing through times and cultures.
With the fall of the Roman Empire and onset o the Dark Ages, the cult of The Goddess was finally silenced, her temples closed forever. Whispers of the Goddess survived in transformed Christian images. From the renaissance on the feminine in art reflects the struggle of the Feminine to reclaim her voice and power in a world dominated by the patriarchal mind.
As we look around us at the ruins of a world created by the patriarchal paradigm, a new paradigm of the divine Feminine is aching to be born, reconnecting us to one another, to ourselves, and to the natural world.
Testimonials for "Remembering the Goddess"
"Hana Marritz presents an important and timely message for both men and women -- the history/herstory of the Goddess culture that was lost to all of us when the patriarchy rose to power. Hana's talk and the visual images that accompany it are stunning. An insightful, artistic, and revelatory presentation."
- Kazzrie Jaxen, Jazz musician, Chi-Gong instructor
"This was a very interesting and enlightening presentation on the goddess mythology in (mostly) ancient art and architecture. Thank you!"
- Elizabeth Rose, Musician, author Yo, Miz
"Hana's seminar, Re-membering the Goddess, was informative, revealing, superbly researched and thoroughly enjoyable. Hana took her spellbound audience through the ages from early neolithic times to present day pop culture exploring, via the artifacts of a multitude of cultures, how (sadly) mankind's shift has been away from right brain (female) thinking to left brain (male) dominance."
- Pauline Glykokokalis, Artist
"Wonderful presentation!! I had never seen so much of this subject all together, traced through history. Was really moving. Thank you! Much love!"
- Tamara D’Agostino, Veterinary student
"Thank you for facilitating an engaging and enlightening afternoon discovering the goddesses and designing our own clay creations! The Beach Lake Wellness Center has lovely vibes! I enjoyed tweaking my creative muse and I found several jewels to adorn my winged ganesha. I intend to look daily at my goddess cards for their wisdom! Blessings!"
