On Brigid’s Day Feb 1 we celebrated the coming of Earth Fire with a circle, a journey to Brigid, putting forth our intentions for this coming of spring, and lighting a candle in the night.
Two days later, I was feeding my horses at dusk. as I was returning up the hill toward my house, something made me turn around. I noticed a light in the woods above the pasture.
This was very unusual, as to my knowledge there is nothing but trees though deep down a little alarm bell was getting ready to ring. I kept calm, took a few more steps and turned around again. The point of light was bigger. Is it my eyes, which have been doing some strange things lately? I knew that was just a story I was telling myself to keep my composure.. I kept staring at it, not quite believing what I was seeing. I was beginning to lose my cool and felt the alarm bells starting to ring. at first I thought the woods were on fire. Should I call the fire department?
Then I thought someone was camping out and had a camp fire, a big one.
Or maybe someone had built a house the next hill over, I didn’t know about it and it was on fire.
The bigger it got, the more it looked like a giant Christmas tree all covered with yellowish lights. Maybe the fairies were celebrating……. or maybe………. it was an alien ship landing. This was getting really weird.
I was almost home. So I called my neighbor Thelma.
“Shall we come over?” she offered. “Yes,” I said. as I waited for Thelma and Bob to get on their boots and parkas and drive over, I took out the binoculars fort a closer look. It didn’t look like a fire because it was not flickering. But it was glowing like it really meant it.
I put down the binoculars. I turned away for a moment, and then looked back to see just where it was located so I could show Bob and Thelma when they arrived. I noticed that the full moon had just come up over the trees, big as castle in the sky. I also noticed that it was just above where the light had been. Right above it.
In that moment, I realized the two were connected.
Just then Thelma and Bob drove up.
“I just figured it out” I said.
“So did we,” Thelma said.
We spent the next hour telling moon stories and drinking coffee.
Two nights later, Thelma called me to say the full moon would be out in the evening, just so I don’t panic. I kept an eye out for a replay, but just missed her light display in the woods.
But I did get this photo.
Brigid made a grand entry this year.
After a very long and hard winter, we are finally feeling the warming heat and light of the sun returning.
Every morning I try to take a few moments to give thanks to the sun as it rises over the horizon. I welcome, bless, honor ,and thank Granfather Sun for rising again to delight our day.
Every time I do this I recall a Czech fairy tale my mother read me over and over and over again. It was about a young prince who goes forth to seek his fortune. And in order to perform the impossible tasks given to him, he must pluck three golden hairs from grandfather sun in order to conquer the evil forces before him. He needs to use cunning to find a way to do this. Perhaps those three golden hairs refer to enlightening our three cauldrons, the head, the heart, and the belly. When all three are lit with fire, we can find our true power.
So, now that we are feeling the forces of Brigid stirring new life below our feet, it is the perfect time to clear out the cobwebs to make room for new adventures.
Take time to literally clear out your spaces, your closets, your papers, your refrigerator. Give space for new energy. And while you’re at it, clear out your psychic clutter; notice what you don’t need in your life any more. make a list. check it twice. Add to it. When you feel complete, burn it in the stove and release it to the spirits. or bury it if you don’t have a stove. ask the spirits to help you lighten your load.We all carry around too much stuff. you will move more freely and easily.
What do you want to create?
